Let me start off by being completely honest, and saying one thing. As a family, we all liked dogs more.

We used to own a German Shepherd and a Doberman. I was doing beginning stages Schutzhund with them. We used to turn our noses to cats. We were dog people! A little over 10 years ago, I would have laughed at the idea of me owning a cattery today. If you told me I would have over 9 cats in my house in about 10 years, I would have choked on my coffee.

That is until one day I had a strange burning desire to window shop fluffy kittens. I didn't know what I was looking for, I had zero idea that there were actual cat breeds that went further than 'long hair', 'short hair', the naked cat and the flat faced Persian with its consistent flow of eye buggers.

That is until I stumbled across 'Traditional Persians' and my eyes lit up. I had finally found what I was looking for. Now it was time to find a breeder.

Little did I know it would be so difficult to find what I was looking for in my state. Or even nearby states! Every kitten and parent I met always had something I simply didn't like. Either dirty, goopy faces, or not great personalities, ran away from me, had weird eyes that kind of went in two different directions, face was too flat, weren't lively enough...the lists just didn't stop for me. I can't blame any of the breeders or their cats, really, I was blindly searching for something, yet I had no idea what.

How does a dog person choose a cat?

I stumbled upon a listing for a retiring breeder that was about a 7 hour drive from me. The picture was blurry, but my husband begrudgingly agreed that the "Himalayan one was kinda cool looking." His words, not mine. He was about as excited at the prospect of owning a cat as he was growing a wart on his knee.

So off I went to check out this kind of cool looking Himalayan. When I got there, he was placed in my lap and his brother peeked around the corner. I set the Himi down to inspect him a bit and the breeder cried out "No, don't put him down!" aaaand off he ran.

As I watched the kitten I drove 7 hours to see run off and hide in another room, his brother trotted right up to me and looked me in the eyes. Clean ducts, perfectly clean little face.. good structure... fluffy to boot. He placed his fluffy little paws on my knee and as I started petting his head, he purred. I knew I found exactly what I was looking for.

He was everything and more. Sweet, kind, gentle, got along with kids, enjoyed everyone's company including guests, he not only bonded with our Shepherd, napping with her throughout the day, but he also slept in the baby's bed at night.  Everything I wanted a cat to be, he not only fulfilled every requirement but he exceeded expectations. And that's how we all kind of became a dog and cat people.

Everyone who met him wanted him. Everyone who was a dog person, suddenly became a cat person after meeting Biggles... Let me correct myself... They became a 'Biggles person.' They'd be happy with a cat if they were like him.

At this point, I started considering my options for hobby breeding. The thought of finding another unrelated cat that could challenge Biggles in the affection and beauty department would be a daunting task, but I knew that if I found him, there must be more like him.

Over the years, I searched high and low for clean faced parents that were not only affectionate, and healthy but bred affectionate, healthy, clean faced kittens with proper structure and faces.

There was trial and error. More than once, I had to rehome a queen before breeding either because she would lack the desire for human affection, was too skittish, didn't like kids, or showed aggression of any sort. I wanted no part in breeding a 'cat person cat.' It was time to break that stigma.

On my journey to better the Persian breed, I stumbled across an untainted line of genetic mastery; the Dearheart Persian. The more I read into them, the more intrigued I was. A line going strong for decades of pure Traditional Persian lines. I had happened upon one of the last and final lines that had no inbred flat face mutations, great health and champion bloodlines sprawling through their pedigrees... I had finally found something I was truly interested in adding to my breeding program, no questions asked.

The Dearheart bloodline is the only untainted line left of what is considered the Traditional Persian. It's been going strong for over 50 years of clean, carefully planned breedings to keep the line as pure as possible.

This meticulous conservation has rewarded breeders and owners alike with one of the most kind, beautiful and gentle souls an animal has to offer. The Dearheart Persian.

They were specifically bred for clean eyes and nose, excellent bone structure, health, temperament, and of course, the trademark glistening silver coat that's texture can't be described, but only felt.

But I'll try anyways. It's silkier than your regular Persian and has a distinct billowy type softness that feels like you're caressing 10,000 down goose feathers without any pokes.

This may or may not be the reason I bear hug my cats every day. I am extremely selfish and do it for my own personal gains of happiness. Thankfully, they have grown accustomed and think I'm doing it for them so they purr back happily making my day a thousand times better. It's like hugging a happy cloud.

Not only is the Dearheart line the only line left of the perfect feline that was gifted to kings and queens, but to really ice the cake, Dearheart is the only line Fancy Feast uses in all of their commercials.

After doing extensive research, I knew this was a line of Persians I'd be very interested in pursuing. They have every quality trademark of a Persian that I was looking for and none of the bad stigmas like breathing problems, or having to constantly wipe goop out of their eyes, or you know, slow, painful death from kidney problems. Kind of a big plus in my book!

Over the 10 years, we have carefully been gathering and breeding a variety of different colors of Traditional Persians. All following the same protocol; they must be affectionate and kind, their faces must be naturally clean, and of course, they must be healthy, fluffy and beautiful.

Over the years, we have continued to hone in and perfect our program to create the ultimate kitten that is not only naturally gorgeous with genetically clear eyes and nose, but is also loving and affectionate, that happily welcomes human affection.

We strive to continue breeding quality kittens fit for kings and humbly offering them to approved families that will love and cherish them in their homes.

And to dog people too.

Raising Happy Kittens

We have a bustling household with 2 kids. Our kittens are raised underfoot with us, they're cuddled and loved by myself, played with and trained for all new experiences by my daughter who loves kittens more than 'literally anyone in the whole world.' (Her words, not mine; don't fight me on this please, but I think she may be right) and also gently loved by my son and husband. The men are the yin to mine and my daughter's yang.

Kittens come home with an understanding that loud noises are fine, laps are good, cuddles are the best and being carried around the house by kids is actually fun.

only the best care

We not only take pride in the characteristics, personalities and beauty that we breed, we also take great pride in our care for our cats.

We free feed all our cats Orijen Original Cat kibble and supplement with various freeze dried toppers.

To make sure all cats are getting enough [filtered spring] water, we also feed either homemade, or a high quality wet food every night to ensure all our cats are getting enough moisture in their diets and keeping their organs running smoothly.

Pregnant queens get wet food twice a day to keep nutrition optimal and kittens growing healthy.

When kittens are weaning, they get fed a mousse of purred salmon, or organic chicken mixed with kitten formula and egg yolk until they are able to move on to morsels, pates and eventually kibble.

As kittens here, they're given wet food 3x a day when weaning, then 2x a day once they are introduced to dry food.

Pregnant, nursing, and recovering queens are always pampered, given extra treats, belly scratches, extra wet food and carefully looked after to ensure optimal health.

We take our cats to the groomers and have them professionally cared for and brushed.

We take grooming seriously and send each kitten home with their very own grooming tool which my groomer and champion breeders have all told me is the only tool I need to use daily. I agree whole heartedly and have taken the guess work out by adding the tool to their Kitten Kits so it's one less thing for you to worry about.

Creating the perfect kitten is so much more than just "breeding a cat." We're pretty serious about creating the healthiest and sweetest kittens and sending them home in the most stress free way we can.
